KBL Round 46 (Regular Season): Suwon KT beats KCC Egis in a derby game

The Regular Season in KBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Busan: Sonicboom (#7) and Egis (#6). Egis were defeated at home 79-84 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Suwon KT dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Egis' 22. Suwon KT outrebounded KCC Egis 45-25 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Jeonghyeon Moon (195-2001) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Guard Sungwook Kang (183-2004) chipped in 12 points and 5 assists. American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Suwon KT maintains seventh position with 24-26 record. KCC Egis at the other side keep the sixth place with 25 games lost. Suwon KT are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Seoul Thunders (#10) on the road in the next round. KCC Egis will play against Daegu (#9) in Incheon and are hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Anyang (32-18) against tenth ranked Samsung Thunders (15-35) on Saturday night. Visiting Anyang was defeated by Samsung Thunders in a tough game in Seoul 62-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Anyang. Worth to mention a great performance of Turkish power forward Kerem Kanter (208-1995, college: Xavier) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists. Kwan-hee Lee contributed with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American power forward Johnny OBryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) replied with 14 points and 7 rebounds for Anyang. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Seoul Thunders moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Daegu. Anyang at the other side keeps the second position with 18 games lost. Seoul Thunders will play against higher ranked Suwon KT (#7) in Busan in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Anyang will play at home against the league's leader LG Sakers (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.

LG Sakers will meet league's second-placed Anyang on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Daegu will play against KCC Egis (#6) and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 46 Wonju DB defeated Sono SG in a road game 92-81. Mobis Phoebus were beaten by Seoul Knights at home 58-69.



Daegu - LG Sakers 67-80

Leader Sakers delivered the 34th victory on Thursday night. This time they beat 9th ranked Daegu (15-35) 80-67 in Incheon. LG Sakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Daegu's players. Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Filipino forward Carl Tamayo (200-2001) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Five Sakers players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-1989, college: Missouri) responded with 27 points and 9 rebounds and Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel (177-1999) scored 19 points and 5 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Sakers have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 34-15 record. Daegu lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 35 games lost. They share the position with Seoul Thunders. LG Sakers will meet league's second-placed Anyang on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Daegu will play against KCC Egis (#6) and hope to secure a win.

Sono SG - Wonju DB 81-92

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Skygunners' (27-24) home loss to fourth ranked Wonju DB (30-21) 81-92 on Saturday. Wonju DB made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American center Henry Ellenson (208-1997, college: Marquette) had a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Ethan Alvano (185-1996, college: CSUSM) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Alvano is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Wonju DB's coach Sang-Bum Lee used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Filipino Kevin Quiambao (193-2001) responded with 22 points and 8 assists and American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds. Five Wonju DB and four Sono SG players scored in double figures. Wonju DB maintains fourth position with 30-21 record. Loser Skygunners keeps the fifth place with 24 games lost. Wonju DB will meet Mobis Phoebus (#8) in the next round. Sono SG will have a break next round.

No shocking result in a game in Ulsan where third ranked Knights (31-18) defeated 8th ranked Mobis Phoebus (17-33) 69-58 on Saturday. Seoul Knights outrebounded Mobis Phoebus 46-29 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Youngjun An (195-1995) chipped in 26 points during the contest. At the losing side American center Rayshaun Hammonds (206-1998, college: Georgia) responded with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Moobeen Park (185-2001) scored 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Mobis Phoebus' coach Dong-hyun Cho rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Seoul Knights maintains third position with 31-18 record having just three points less than leader LG Sakers. Mobis Phoebus lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 33 games lost. Seoul Knights will meet league's leader LG Sakers in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mobis Phoebus will play against Wonju DB (#4) and hope to secure a win.
